Belladonna (Atropa belladonna), known as Deadly nightshade is a poisonous perennial plant in the family Solanaceae, often growing as a subshrub to 2 m high. The flowers are purple. The fruits are berries, which are shiny black, and approximately 1.5 cm in diameter. The berries are sweet and are consumed by animals.
The foliage and berries are extremely toxic when ingested, containing tropane alkaloids which can cause delirium and hallucinations.
